Advance the SSS story one trigger too far, and a single Back Alley Doctor Glenn volume can vanish for the entire run. All 14 volumes trade for exactly one Zemurian Ore , then one ultimate weapon at Guillaume’s smithy—no later shop buyback, no recovery after a locked NPC window. Collectors in The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero must treat each book pickup as a date-locked, story-locked decision. The safe method is simple: collect the volume first, then accept the next progression prompt or enter the next dungeon. Why is this so easy to forget? Because Crossbell’s book pickups look like ordinary NPC conversations, yet they are tied to specific dates, NPC states, and story progress. Why These Books Disappear So Quietly Crossbell has no catch-up vendor for a missed Back Alley Doctor Glenn volume. Vol. 2 requires Bond at Crossbell Library on 5/17 , while Vol. 3 is Fred in Bellheim on 5/19 . Entering a required dungeon or advancing the day can remove the conversation entirely. The NISA English names are used below, so legacy Geofront players may see small name differences, but the locations remain unchanged. Is a single missed NPC worth losing an ultimate weapon? For completionists, the answer is no. The Complete 14-Volume Pickup Table Start each listed day by checking the inventory or key-item list, then collect the book before accepting a progression prompt or entering a dungeon. Treat every NPC interaction in this table as a no-rebuy decision.
